Why We Don't Hand Out Keys

At Apple Property Management we are one of the few agencies operating in our area that has a strict policy of not handing out keys to prospective tenants.

Some would question why we do this and, even if a landlord were to give us permission to hand out keys, why we would NEVER do it.

When we refuse to hand out keys to prospective tenants we are not only protecting the landlord - but any future tenants.

While a prospective tenant has unsupervised access to a key to a property that is not theirs they have access to make copies. The idea that a stranger is wandering the streets with a key to your home - from the viewpoint of a landlord or a tenant is a scary thought.

There's also the risk of the house not being locked after the inspection or appliances being left on.

Did you know - theft from a property where there is no forced entry is uninsurable? This could be theft of the landlord's whitegoods, theft of the tenants goods - or worse case scenario entry to the property after the tenants have moved in by undesirable parties.

As an added measure of security Apple Property Management will always protect our landlord and our tenants interests by NEVER giving out keys.
